As summer draws to a close, a young trans girl finds freedom in a secret midnight swim.
Winner of the Audience Award for Best Narrative Short at the 2017 Los Angeles Film Festival, Mari Walker’s "Swim" explores life's stolen moments and how growing up trans can mean the simplest of pleasures take on a heavier significance.
“Swim” has played at over thirty film festivals world wide, including Outfest LA and Inside Out Toronto, and is the recipient of five awards and fourteen nominations. On writing “Swim,” Mari Walker says, “I loved swimming as a child, but as my body continued to alienate itself from my mind, wearing a male swimsuit left me feeling vulnerable and exposed. Then, one summer, I took my mother's swimsuit and went on a secret midnight swim. I wanted to celebrate something so simple which can signify so much freedom.”
